Ordinary people, extraordinary event

The appalling murder of Matthew Shepard was one of those “moments”.  A moment when you know where you and others stand. No waffle, no spin.  Plain evil directed against a young gay man for no reason other than the fact that he was gay.  Sure takes the sparkle off the glitter ball.

It is an event that has been front and centre of the debate on hate-crimes in the US.  There has been a play, TV shows and books.

Now, more than a decade after the crime in Laramie, Wyoming , there is a chance to hear a mother’s view and how an ordinary person was changed by an extraordinary event.  Judy Shepard has just written her journey and you can hear about it here.
