At the time it wasn’t all that exciting – or that’s what many of us thought.
The 1970s had been the glam-rock explosion, not to mention disco. Bliss.
Then came the 80s. And if you were living oop north in the UK, it was a time of Margaret Thatcher and not much else. Actually there was a lot “else”, especially in the music department.
It was an era when radio, finally, expanded in Britain. How to fill all the air time ? The answer was simple – many, many more bands. Many crap, loads fabbier than we ever thought. We’d never had it so good, but (and this is often the case) we never knew it.
Luckily, the guys and gals of the noughties have woken up to the musical legacy of two decades and more ago.
