The Full “Mayday” Catastrophe – May 1st 2010

In TFC on May 1, 2010 at 10:42 pm

TV shows great and small got you talking. A list is always a good debate, here’s where to explore Time Magazine’s best 100 TV shows of all time.  And don’t even bother, “Chances” didn’t make it

Then raise the scarlet standard high;
Beneath its folds we’ll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We’ll keep the red flag flying here.

Tis Mayday and “The Red Flag” should be sung, but not on my show !  And fotr those looking, the hidden Communist track on this playlist is very well hidden!

So let’s have a look at this week’s five year plan.

Everyone Have Fun Tonight – Wang Chung

Baby Come Back – Pato Banton

Robin Hood – Dick James

Twilight In Turkey – Beau Hunks

Pull Up To The Bumper – Grace Jones

Chocolate Box – Coldcut

How good was this lot ? Plemty say I.

Attention Must Be Paid – The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band

This group is somewhat of a missing link in the Mony Python story. Bonzo Dog was around at the same time that Monty P was getting going.  It was the house band for “Do Not Adjust Your Set” which featured Michael Palin, Terry Jones & Eric Idle.  The group even had a hit or two, but the various egos inside the band and the one-off nature of the front man Vivian Stanshall probably made become  “success” always something of an outside bet.  Neil Innes kept going on and his music pops up through the succeeding Pythonesque canon of work. Bonzo Dog combined a great fondness for the silly songs of the 20s & 30s with madcap antics and an occasional expedition to the musical mainstream.

The Intro & The Outro

I’m The Urban Spaceman

Jollity Farm

Girls On Film – Duran Duran

The Doggie In The Window – Patti Page

A childhood favourite and a hit at the time.

Framling – Carola

This week’s Eurovision curio as the build-up to ESC 2010 reaches frantic proportions.

Telegram Sam – T-Rex

Thanks For The Memory – Dave Pell

Sheila – Tommy Rue

The Streamline Train – The Vipers

If I Had A Hammer – Trini Lopez

Beginning To See The Light – Helen Forrest

Fight The Urge – Tod McKofsky

Shangri La – Robert Maxwell

Take It Away Lucky – Eddie Noack

Do It Some More – Brains Unchained

And the hidden Communist track ? Shangri La of course !
