The Full Catastrophe – Playlist 8th May

In TFC on May 8, 2010 at 10:53 pm

With a nip in the air and tram maintenance works in the offing, the Full Catastrophe once again set sail on a voyage to the far flung corners of the musical world.  More Madonna than Magellen, our spinnaker fair rattled with tunefulness.

‘Twas  indeed a night for foot tapping and other sinful pursuits on World Naked Gardening Day.

###

Let’s Go Disco – Real Thing

Feel The Love – Cut Copy

Hey, Hey Grosses Madchen – Gotz Alsmann

The Lavender Song – Ute Lemper

Hummin’ To Myself – Boulevard Fo Broken Dreams Orchestra

Like It Like That – Guy Sebastian

Attention Must Be Paid – The Carpenters

The sweetest sounding sibling pairing, their songs were often far more substantial than at first blush.  The duo’s career ended with tragedy when Karen died after a cardiac arrest linked to her long standing condition of anorexia nervosa.  The Carpenters defied the musical trends and were not punished commercially for it.  Almost three decades on, they are well worth consideration, not to mention attention.

Top Of The World

Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft

All You Get From Love Is A Love Song

Lapponia – Monica Aspelund

Surely one of the most memorable failed Eurovision songs of all time.

Walk A Mile In My Shoes – Joe Smith & The Believers

You Can’t Get A Man With A Gun – Annie Get Your Gun (cast)

I have tried, but what can you do?

Sure Thing Baby – Peter Allen

Yep, the bloke from Tenterfield and a song from a gold carat Broadway flop.

Keep Love Together – Love To Infinity

Break It To Me Gently – Brenda Lee

Close To The Bone – Louis Prima

The Boys In the Backroom – Marlene Dietrich

From the western “Destry Rides Again” a splendid 1939 spoof western which was on the same trail as “Blazing Saddles‘ which came along three decades and more later. Marlene is splendid.

Judy In Disguise – John Fred & The Playboy Band

Ain’t Too Proud To Beg – The Temptations

Gypsy Tea Room – Chris Tanner’s Virus

Bathe In The River – Mt Raskill  Preservation Society
