Blanche RIP

Rue McClanahan, who played the man (and sex) obsessed Blanche Devereaux  in “The Golden Girls”, is no longer with us.

She’s died at the age of 76.  She leaves behind some wonderful television moments of a character that burnished many a gay bars Friday nights.

That leaves Betty White (Rose) as the sole surviving member of a TV show that was a “must watch” for so many gay men in the 80s and early 90s.

Believe it or not, bars would come to a halt as scores of drinkers hung on every zinger and quip.

I was watching some episodes from series 2 last night (Thursday June 3) and the program stands the test of time pretty well … and the fashion sense is a hoot.

Vale Blanche and Rue. She joins Dorothy (Bea Arthur) and Estelle Getty (Sophia) at the Shady Pines in the sky.

Ms Devereux was a keen observer of  the sporting man and that gets me past an awkward segue-way to this week’s TFC footy tips.

St Kilda by a long way

Carlton by a little bit

Fremantle by a purple patch

Geelong by habit

North by surprise

Sydney by hook or by crook

Hawthorn by a proper jumper this week

Western Bulldogs by the fact that a bottle blonde twit is absent
