We are off to the polls. So musical cheer is necessary to get us through the hyperbole, confected outrage and pontificating. Interesting that the last video on Rage this morning before the political stuff started the ABC was Scissor Sisters. I don’t think that was random!
Poems – Frank Bennett
A classy crooner from the emerald city.

Attention Must Be Paid – Rock Follies
Rock Follies was a breathtakingly audacious series made for UK commercial television in the 1970s.
Its combination of drama, comedy and music (some of it performed live) was derived from fringe theatre. The show was an unexpected hit and had strong messages about gender politics as well as the music industry. As a teenager I loved it and thanks to a chance re-discovery on Youtube I fell in love again. Open your hearts!

I’m The Guy Who Found The Lost Chord – Jimmy Durante
One of the silliest songs ever, but actually based on tragedy. The Lost Chord” is a song composed by Arthur Sullivan (of Gilbert & Sullivan fame) in 1877 at the bedside of his brother Fred during his last illness. Fast forward to Jimmy Durante, a somewhat coarse comedian, and he turned the idea of a “lost chord” into it into a superb piece of nonsense.
Here’s a spot on impression of what a perfomance of this sing would have looked like … lip synching is not new!!!
