I’ve kept away from the election on the blog. I fancy that clips of silly songs and links to cool bands websites are more entertaining.
They still are.
But the tweet of a Family First Senate candidate needs as much reaction and condemnation as is possible.
At the risk of giving further oxygen to the disgraceful Wendy Francis and her now deleted comments, she should not be allowed to walk away from her responsibilities by simply clicking on delete.
Life isn’t that simple.
“Legitimising gay marriage is like legalising child abuse,” she tweeted.
Well, electing people like Wendy Francis is like electing a bucket of animal excrement to the parliament.
That said, we should leave her alone.
What we should do is demand that political leaders say on the record, with no “moving forwards” or “ums”, whether they agree or disagree with the comments.
We need to know.
I for one have had enough of this kind of crap.
And before you shrug this off as words from a fringe candidate in a state far away, remember that when you vote “above the line” in the Senate you may be preferencing Family First unwittingly down the track.
Brothers & sisters, put fabulousness and fashion sense to one side for an instant and find out where your vote ends up.
It takes about as long as a standard Pet Shop Boys track and is far more important.
Or better still, vote under the line to ensure you vote is your vote and not the plaything of party hacks.
Knowledge is power.
Don’t wait for post-August 21st and then whine about being a victim.
