The Full “Grand Final” Catastrophe – 25th September 2010

Posted & Presented by Andy “Loves A Speccy” Bell

Plans were left in turmoil.  Schedules torn up. Post-hooter arrangements in tatters.

And that was just the show!

A draw in the Grand Final.  Only the third in VFL/AFL history (1948 & 1977 were the others).

I spent a glorious afternoon quaffing a few ales and scarfing some lovely finger food at a mate’s place.  To be a neutral in a houseload of Collingwood existensial angst was indeed a privilige.

Anyhoo, I rapidly had to re-jig the run order of songs AND find a closing song.  And Andrew Demetrious thinks HE’S got problem.

So on with the 3rd annual “TFGFC”

###

Leaps & Bounds – Paul Kelly (The Game)

Bye & Bye – Gregg Stafford & Dr Michael White (St Kilda)

Surf City – Jan & Dean (Sydney)

Pears Before Swine – Coldcut (GWS)

Cats Meow – Flat Top Tom & His Jump Cats (Geelong)

One Day More – Les Miserables – Cast (Essendon) James Hird reference!

Golden Brown – The Stranglers (Hawthorn)

#####HALF TIME#####

The Trumpeters – National Band of New Zealand

How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously – Pet Shop Boys (for the umps)

#####SECOND HALF#######

Sue Me – Guys & Dolls – Cast (Adelaide)

Way Out West – Andrew Bird’s Bowl Of Fire (West Coast Eagles)

The Lavender Song – Ute Lemper (Fremantle)

The Bliss Of A Bris – Naked Boys Singing – Cast (Brisbane)

Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport – Rolf Harris (North Melbourne)

So what to play for the draw ?  It came to me as I strolled  along Albion Street, Brunswick with an independent air.  Something so far removed from footy that the irony was nuclear strength!!

Why Must The Show Go On – Noel Coward (The Game)

And if you are still unsure about the footy feast your eyes on some broadcasting history!!!
