Life’s a beach

In Uncategorized on June 27, 2011 at 2:49 pm

Bit late catching up with this, but better late than never.

“As the radioactive cloud approaches Australia, a desperate submarine mission is launched.”

On the Beach‘ is a post-apocalyptic end-of-the-world novel written by British-Australian author Neville Shute which was made into a B&W movie and now I’ve discovered  this radio adaptation which is available until about July 3rd on BBC Radio 4 Extra.

“On the Beach” is set in our beloved Melbourne.

It has often been claimed that Ava Gardner described Melbourne as “the perfect place to make a film about the end of the world.”

But it appears the quote was actually invented by Sydney Morning Herald  journalist.
