Music yet again comes to the aid of a troubled week.  For me, it was the mine accident in Wales that cut me to the quick.  Cilybebyll is part of my old “patch” as a reporter for commercial radio & the BBC back in the mid 1980s.  For once it is really a “tight knit community” that is dealing with a huge loss, not a media confection.  The spirit of  the valleys of south west Wales is very close to my heart and the program’s track from Brigyn is dedicated to those coping with loss at Glofa’r Gleision/Gleision Colliery.

Kitsch – PolyStyrene

“A punk among ounks” and sadly no longer with us.

An Audience With The Pope – Elbow

It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad World – The Shirelles

From a movie that was was  star packed where the sum of its parts was considerably less than hoped for.

Birth Of Serpents – The Mountain Goats

Bockhanal – Chet Baker Ensemble

My Resistance Is Low – Hoagy Carmichael

A “standard” from the great Hoagy Carmichael, which got a new lease on life in the 70s.

Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most – Bette Midler

La Vie En Rose – Duck Musique

My favourite Melbourne based combo playing swing jazz in the style of the Quintette of the Hot Club of France !!

La Vie En Rose –Christa Hughes

And a VERY different version of the Piaf classic.

Watching Cars Go By – Felix da Housecat

Haleliwia – Brigyn

The Blues In The Night – Mel Tormé

Hotel Room – Asleep In The Park (Now known as The On Fires)

Only Heaven Knows – Alex Harding

Love Is Sweeping The Country – Of Thee I Sing (Cast)

This was a Gershwin musical which won a Pulitzer Prize

Mania De Peitau – Seu Jorge

You’ve Got That Thing – Nickolaus Grace

Robert Mitchum – Steve Gideon

A song of lust for one of the great actors of the film noir period in Hollywood.

Do You Fell The Same – Johnny Buss

And in “Any Other Business”, this is the book review which sparked the discussion about explicit sex on the show.  I will post the “Yes!” & “No!” arguments when they become available online.
