With “Carols by Queerlight” (http://melbournestaycation.com/news/carols-by-queerlight) taking over the airwaves this Saturday TFC takes the night off … and yours truly heads for WA !
I am not staging an almighty sulk, trust me.
As luck would have it, my work is sending me over the WA for a couple of days for reasons that will 1) confuse you, 2) bore you & 3) confuse you even more !
Now, I used to dwell in marbled halls in Peppermint Grove in Perth’s leafy western suburbs.
It’s the country’s smallest municipality (http://www.peppermintgrove.wa.gov.au/) and boast a large number of stinkingly rich people. My then-partner and I were not among them, although we did have a double garage !
This was the early 1990s and Perth’s remoteness hadn’t been somewhat eased by the digital thing.
The place felt a long way away from nowhere in particular and apart from the odd splendid Vietnamese restaurant, the Freo Markets (http://www.fremantlemarkets.com.au/) and a quasi queer bookshop there wasn’t much to entertain a gay blade about town.
Luckily I liked the footy and the cricket.!!
Returning fifteen years after the event will be an eye-opener, not least greeting the kiddies of former colleagues who were wild young things when I was there the last time.
