Oh the shark has pretty teeth dear and he keeps them pearly white.
For some reason the lyrics of “Mack the Knife” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YX2n2EE2hls) come to mind as I hurtle at 768 kph somewhere to the south of and west of Ceduna.
And it’s not because I barracked for them in my fave footy comp – the WAFL.
The Tigers of Claremont (sounds like an HBO mini-series) were and are my WAFL mob.
Perhaps it’s because my silver bird is crossing the Bight. That’s the place where a lot of weather arrives from. Eventually.
Or perhaps it’s because it’s one of very few tunes EVER written that appear NOT to be in my seatback entertainment personal console and jollification centre.
“Cuddle Me” isn’t there either by the way !
Anyhoo, it got me thinking.
It seems that we are so blasé about travel these days we need total distraction.
Ah for the days of Imperial Airways and the Queensland-And-Northern-Territory-Air-Service.
I was made for the flying boat era when rounds of bridge were played at a leisurely pace while a chef, probably called Pierre, whipped up a beef wellington up the back.
I do look good in a dinner jacket.
OK, back to reality and Flight 485.
My foil box had some yellow stuff, green stuff and pink, fleshy stuff.
I fear that were its contents put in a food processor and given a whirl they could be used as a lifestyle drink for the elderly or for some patch-up work on grouting.
Back to the distractions.
I wonder if my choice of video titillation (5 eps of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” Season 8 and 1 ep of Kate Winslet in Mildred Pearce) has been noted as I have stickybeaked that of those around me.
There’s a kiddy who can’t stay on one thing for more than five minutes – that’s half a cup of coffee and a Danielle Steele reading mother for you.
The man in front is watching “V”, which without the sound looks like a porn with all the sex cut out.
And the gent to my left is still resolutely sans headphones and ploughing through his gratis edition of the Australian.
And, in between vids, I am rocking and rolling to Renee Geyer’s “Dedicated”. (http://www.undercover.fm/news/2753-renee-geyer-remains-dedicated)
Trying not to groove in my seat too much, but I do groove when there’s groove to be grooved to.
And it ends up three hours behind and wondering how much and how little has changed in Perth since my 18 month tour of duty here for NEW10 in the 1990s.
