Be there or be somewhere else.
Livin’ Thing – ELO
An Army Of Lovers – Decline Of The Reptiles
From the album 13 Songs For The Rodeo Grrls.
I Second That Emotion – Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
Vims – Anita Thallaug
Don’t ask me why I am somewhat obsessed with a song which came last in the Norwegian selection for the 1966 Eurovision Song Contest.
I just am. You got a problem buddy ?
This is one of TWO versions sung of Vims on that never to be forgotten night on Norsk rikskringkasting.
A Gay Song – Everyone Involved
Little By Little – Dusty Springfield
The clip has a glimpse of Brian Henderson at the beginning, so this performance has its originis with TCN-9’s “Bandstand”.
What Am I Going To Do About You – Ronnie Barker
This lovely piecce of pastiche is from a gem of a BBC Radio 4 show from the early 1970s. It luxuriated in the title “Lines From My Grandfather’s Forehead” which pre-dates Mr Barker’s partnership with that other Ronnie.
Hippy Skippy Moon Strut – The Mighty Show Stoppers
Lower The Flame – The Shirelles
J’ai Deux Amours – Madeleine Peyroux
One of the great discoveries of the year for me. A chance remark as I pealed apples & rhubarb in an inner London kitchen lead to the opening of a fantastic musical pandora’s box. And she’s NOT Canadian !!! She’s just a gal from Athens, Georgia !
Mean To Me – Kate Paradise
I Can’t Teach My Old Heart New Tricks – Nancy Wilson
And some background to the remarkable album “With My Lover Beside Me” come from a ChanMidday show from many years ago.
Three Cool Cats – The Coasters
Bozo’s Laughing Song – Pinto Colvig
Neon Bible – Arcade Fire
Hazy Lane – Snow Goose
Doing The Raccoon – Northern Dance Orchestra
A staple of BBC radio when I was a young fellow. One of the great radio bands. The NDO’s “sound” will never be repeated and is a potent piece of musical nostalgia. Here they are in their 1950s pomp.
Ain’t That A Shame – Fats Domino
Way Down In The Hole – Neville Brothers
On The Punt – The Aerial Maps
Going For The Drive – Sneeze
Butterflyz – Alycia Keys
