In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of the effect of media images on self-image, especially on young women.

 

But what about with gay men?

 

A 2007 study by Columbia University in New York said that gay men were three times more likely to have eating disorders than straight men.

 

Last year, the Huffington Post had an article by US gay activist Jacob Tobia who called for gay men to stop hating their bodies.

 

Hikaru sat down with noted psychologist Daniel Witthaus to find out where the roots of this poor body-image amongst gay men are.
